Why is it required to have a fishing license to fish?
Shaun S asked:
The way I see it, man didn’t put the fish in the ocean. Therefore he should not make people pay for a fishing license to be able to fish. What about poor people who have to can’t afford to pay for fishing licenses and have to catch fish in order to support their family so they won’t starve. Is it fair for them to have to pay for fishing licenses?

You are right, man didn’t invent fish, but the money for licensing goes toward replenshing the supply of fish in the state. Without this, overfishing would cause amajor shortage of fish in lakes rivers and streams and you would have troublecatching anything. In regards to the poor, all fishing doesn’t require a license. In my state at least, fishing with live bait (minnows, crickets, chicken livers) is legal using a rod and reel. Only fishing with artificial bait requires a license. DukeShadeBlue

fish and hunting license fees go directly towards maintaining the species and habitats so that are fish to catch and animals to hunt. Cliff

I can see your point clearly. Now regardless of any other answer you may have gotten on your question, the bottom line and cold hard facts is this–The government has found many ways to rob it’s citizenry of their hard earned money. A requirement to have a hunting and fishing license is only one of many ways they do this.Know of a single politician that isn’t a crook? dumdum

Fishing licenses are required to protect the fish population so that you can continue to fish. With the population as big as it is, if everyone were to fish and take whatever they want then certain populations of fish might disappear from our waters. Michelle
