Because its hunting. You can’t just go fish all you want you might destroy the fishes ecosystem, they expect kids won’t catch much

Just another way the government gets your money just like taxes.

The only reason that a license for anything exists is to make money for the government. Just look at the hunting license situation. To hunt now you need a small game license, a big game license, and a muzzle loader license, and an archery license. and permit to hunt the state management areas that cost an additional $15.Plus a duck stamp. It cost me around a $100 a year for all my license to hunt and fish.

Federal law requires state license fees for things like fishing and hunting to go back into the resource… conservation, research, etc., etc. Purchasing a license not only allows your state to keep track of how many people are taking advantage of the opportunity to fish and/or hunt, but also assures that you’ll have the chance to continue doing so in the future.

They charge money for the license to run the states fisheries division. They use the funds to help clean up rivers and lakes, stock lakes, etc.
