blues bite year round.find them congregated on ledges and creek channels when the water is cold.i have caught blues when the water is coldest in dec. and jan.
i like bluegill,shad,and skipjack as far as bait goes.

The best time to go catfishing is before it rains in the evening. Catfish start to become very active around dusk. Now is the perfect time of year to start fishing. Catfish will bite all summer long. The best bait to use for catfish is a big juicy piece of chicken liver. Just throw a hook and sink on your line with a chunk of chicken liver and let it sit on the bottom of the pond. Before long you will see your pole start to bend over or the line will get a lot of slack all of a sudden. This is when you know you’ve got a cat on your line. The better time is when water temps reach 65 or more.
Kinda figure out what the local lake or body of water offers the fish for a diet and either go with natural bait or something similar.

I found the best time to fish for catfish, is before a rain. After a rain the pond is full of bait. It seems to me, that the fish bite better before, because there isn’t as much for them to eat.
