I believe it's rated for 1/2lb to 4lb test, but no more than 4lb test I'm sure, I have 2lb Stren on it though. This rod would be considered super ultra light. I had actually bought it in hopes of using it for crappie around the marina docks on my home lake when they came close out of my float tube. But of course, they stopped allowing tubes in the lake before I had a chance to use it for what I wanted it for. Stupid quagga mussels. But I have used it for trout in emergencies (although I absolutely HATE and DESPISE trout). My dad and I went up to the lake one time and I had taken it along just to play with. It turns out the week before, CDFG had stocked trout and they were going ape up there. So all we had in the vehicle was bass tackle and that dinky little rod. So I tied on a tiny gold Kastmaster and tossed it out (surprisingly enough, I got some pretty good distance with it) and we each caught a limit of five 16-inch hatchery trout. Honestly, those 1 1/2 pound trout felt so awesome on that little rod, it was like fighting a huge bass on heavier tackle, especially when they jumped and thrashed around. If you want to really fight, then go with ultra light combos. Use 2 or 4 lb line, and then you will see how much fighting a little bream does. Backwater Charlie is right. That's what I use. Also, I've seen 2' rods, I saw them at a Flea Market today. But you wouldn't want one that short, see it would be too stout, you want a flexible rod such as a 4'6 or 5'. Hell crappie fisherman use 12' rods. A good sized 4′6 or 5′ Ultra light rod will do good. That’s what I use.
