When are the best times of the year to reserve a place at the fishing lodge in Sitka? We are giving a trip away in the MDR Halibut Derby and I want to know what time of year is the best Salmon or best for Big “Barn Door” sized Pacific Halibut.

June seems to be one of the best months as the fish have just moved from the very deep ocean to feed along the coast.

“Barn Door” sized Halibut ay’ ~ best of my recollection (lived in Sitka and most of all Southeastern AK.) was June through August. For Salmon ie., Kings (Chinook) would be May through June.
Keep in mind that the outfitter/charter boat service, will have a great bearin’ on your size catch. Hope I’ve helped a trite ;)…

Question: Would by any chance MDR=Marina Del Ray?

Try June 1, or so,opening day is Memorial day.
Opening day for King Salmon, that is.
    Make the trip worth having.
