For crappie, 4 pound test. No more than 6. Live shiners, minnows or shad would probably be best.

I use 4lb test on crappies all the time with a jig and sometimes a slip bobber. Lately I have had great success with a berkley gulp 2inch minnow in char truce or water mellon

For crappie and white bass, i would use between 4-6 lb. mono. Trilene is the best casting mono I have found so far. Works great for the white bass, crappie, bluegill, etc.

For the bait, try wax worms or live minnows.

Happy fishing.

6 pound is a real good choice, but 4 pound will give you a little extra casting distance and they won't be able to see it as much
