What kind of fishing rod and reel should I buy?

I’m in New England and I’m looking to get into salt water pier fishing. I haven’t fished since I was about 8 years old w/ my dad (I’m 26 now) so I basically have zero experience and I’m a total beginner. I have no idea what type of rod and reel I should purchase to do this type of fishing. If anyone can give me some advice it will help a lot because I have no clue where to start.

Hey Freak-
I suggest going to a local tackle shop and asking them lots of questions. If they’re nice and seem honest to you, then buy your stuff there, based on their recommendations, furthermore, when you end up on that pier enjoying your day, look around at who’s catching the species you are interested in, and make sure you are set up similarly, which you should be, if the tackle shop owner set you up right. winkydink
