Best line I have ever used is Berkley Silver Thread, AN-40. This is a Co-Polymer line, means low stretch, strength, and it casts without a memory. I use 4lb test for most applications and purchase it in 3000 yard spools from Cabelas.

I tried a 10lb braid, Power pro, it was rated as the same size as 2lb mono, but it was thicker than the 4lb Berkley Silver Thread.

I would stick with the mono line for spinning, if you go to bait-casting then try braid.

It is a personal preference as you can see. Both work, it just depends on your impression of both.

What are you fishing for? I am assuming it is bass, since they're the #1 sport fish in the United States. My favorite line for a spinning reel would be monofilament. Get you a good 10 or 12 lb. mono (I like Berkley Trilene XL Smooth Cast) and spool that reel up with it. I have came to conclusions that Stren mono tends to "jump off the spool" when you spool it with it. Trilene never does this. But Trilene lacks that strength, and abrasion resistants.

Happy fishing.

My spinning reels have 2 spools. I put 8 lb fireline on one and 6lb mono on the other. If you have an ultra light go smaller and if you have a big reel you can go larger. But 6or8lb handles most anything in fresh water.

Since we don't know what reel that you have, I'm going to give you what I usually use in my basic set up. My reel is set using Stren monofilament 12 lb test. It works well for me.

i like to use spider wire fishing line it is good for the big strong fishes yet gentle for the little ones and to decide the lbs you need to look at 2 things.... 1 what will your reel hold, and 2 how big of fish are you catching but for a good all around test i like 10 to 12 lbs use 20+ for steelhead and bigger fish and 6 lbs for small trout

go with a braided line, they have better sensitivity, allow easier hook setting as they don't stretch, and allow better lure swim. the only downside is the knot tying beecomes more difficult, but you can counter this by doubling your line back on itself, then tying your knots as you generally would, but with a bouble strand of line rather than single. i take it you mean how MANY Lbs, but this depends on the weight rating of the reel, it should say on the spool or near the drag setting.

Stren Purple. IDK what pound test your reel can hold so you can normally look where you adjust the drag and find the test.
