What kind lures/bait do you use if fishing in the ocean?

Boblo asked:

Decided to go fishing the other day but i’ve never fished in the ocean before. Just in lakes, ponds, and rivers. So I have no idea what lures/bait to use for saltwater fishing. Just going to be casting from the shore. Thanks for your help!

Live bait is best, such as shrimp, mullet or mud minnows. Cut bait like mullet, shad, squid works too but not as well as live. sabertoothmonster

Live bait is the best. My favorite is live shrimp if you can find it. As far as lures go; check out Rapalla’s and Yo-Zuri’s. I think they are the best! They both have websites.Good luck, have fun! Catch some fish!
    Watch out for BP! NMexican

anchovies, even frozen always work in the ocean.

10 lb test is minimum. more if off piers and you need to lift the fish that much.

when you get home, wash your gear. place your rod and reel on the grass and hose it down. better to soak it completely then to leave salt behind.
same for a boat and any other gear you use. Cliff
