What is the best way (tool) to use to cut braided fishing line?

Triple*B asked:

I have become rather fond of using braided fishing line, but have found it rather difficult to achieve a clean cut extra line. The line seems to fray before cutting, anyone have any recommendations??

Use fingernail clippers. You can find a set of “nippers”, which are smply fingernail clippers anyway, in the sporting goods section of any store that sells fishing equipment.

Good quality Braid scissors work well, I use rapala ones. Some cutters in pliers work really well also, look at xtools.

I go through the same deal sometimes. I found that carrying a retractable razor, the ones used to cut card board boxes open, work very well.

berkley makes some scissors especially designed for cutting braided line. If you don’t feel like purchasing these, just use fingernail clippers.

There are a number of cutters on the market specifically designed for braided lines. You’ll find them in most tackle shops. If not, buy a good quality pair of nail clippers - cheap ones will just squeeze the line rather than cutting it.

Finger nail clippers, i use them for ultra fine tippet too, but if you want very sharp ones try the orvis ceramic nippers or the fishpond pitch fork nippers.

use some toe nail clippers or a extremely sharp knife

just my .02 but i use a lighter to burn it in half sears the ends and makes for easy threading with no frays

Airflow is right. Nail clippers are easier to clip braid than a sharp knife. It is faster also.

There are dozens of tools out there made for cutting braided line. I use heavy braided line a good bit for the type of fishing I do and I have a pair of sissors made specifically for cutting braided line. I have tried clippers and they work good for some of the lines, but when you are using heavy hollow core braided line they don’t work very well. Any company that sales saltwater fishing supplies will also sale any number of cutters. If you are fishing in saltwater, invest in the higher quality ones, they hold up longer, and don’t rust up.

I have also been fond of braided line. The best cut I’ve gotten is with a very sharp Buck Knife.
