high speed reels for sure then these work great they have a serrated stainless skirt of teeth around the bottom of them that snags into the jellyish body and snags them.

Are you fishing the giant humboldt squid or just the small ones?
If you are catching the smaller ones(e.g. arrow squid and cuttlefishes), i recommend using squid jigs from reputable brands. They are way more expensive but from my own personal experiences they produce results if the squid are there.
Depending on the size of you squid and the water current. I usually use sizes 2.5, 3, 3.5 and 4. Brands recommended would be yamashita and yozuri.
I prefer the cloth type that have feathery stuff attached. Be careful as there are many copy cat products in the market. (Esp for yamashita, it should come in a box. Underneath the cloth layer, you should be able to see some sort of chrome colouring) Sometimes, the cheap stuff works just as well. So experiment for the best results.
As for rods, off shore, just use a rod that will impart sufficient jigging motion and sensitivity. However it should not be too soft and should have sufficient backbone. A PE1-2 rod should do, depending on the current.
For shoreline edging, use a longer rod as it allows clearance. a 7ft to 8ft plus rod should do. I prefer the rod tip to be soft and sensitive but the rod should lock at around 2/3 position so as to lift the squid out of the reefs.
