What are the California fishing laws?

I am currently visiting some of my family in california and we are planning a trip to Catalina Island, Well i have been there before and have always wanted to do some shore-side fishing but i am worried about needing a fishing liscence and what not. Could anyone get me a nice detailed answer about what i will need to be prepared legal wise.

this will tell you everything you need to know. also available in booklet form, free, anywhere they sell fishing licenses.

You will need at least a day permit for fishing on Catalina, it is in the state of California. This can be obtained in any Walmart,bait shop ect. I’m sure you can find one on the island. Or you could come to California on vacation and leave on probation! In other words, don’t mess with the Fish and Game. Just remember they call it fishing not catching!
