A big topwater lure like a Cotton Cordell Pencil Popper or a big metal-lipped saltwater Diving Rapala Magnums. Both work good in saltwater with a mackeral-colored finish.

Here in Southern California, guys in kayaks use the big mackeral-colored Diving Rapala Magnums for thresher shark. Grand Master Basser

I see you’ve already got some few recommendations on what lures would be best for saltwater fishing. My brother and I are currently shopping for a new fishing rod for our Dad and we happened to come across a great site called, FishFreakOnline.com I suggest you check out their selection of saltwater fishing lures - I’m sure they offer those lures that have been recommended here. We were really impressed with their entire selection, fishing rods and tackle, and their prices were quite reasonable. Just figured I would pass along this site for you to check out.

    Hope that helps! Lauren
