Yeh its wrong, but the reason they are for "scientific purposes" is that its in international waters, as well as Antarctic waters (which Australia controls). We should blast them ! They aren't allowed a Navy since WW2, so are required by law to ask for assistance from us, what bs !

The main issue with the Japs is that they are fishing in "international waters" which is governed by the Geneva convention ( i think )

What the Japs say is that they are doing research and there has been much argument in Geneva regarding the definition and legitimacy of their research. Many countries of the UN have made statments to discourage the Jap government from doing their killings but there has been no economic sanctions applied to their country to force their hand into ceasing the practice.

I whole heartedly suport the actions of Greanpeace and Sea Sheperd. I visited the Sea Sheperd team while they were in Melbourne, I saw the Farley Mowat which has been retired and the damaged Robert Hunter which is now being repaired in Tassie somewhere. They are awesome people and the ships are very imposing.
Check out their web site :

molly,

I think there might be an agreement between the Japanese and Australian governments that's allowing the Japanese to fish Australian waters.

Give a call to your representative...they'll know, or will find out for you.
