Is hunting and fishing considered a sport?

My friend and I have had this heated debate whether hunting and fishing are sports, he says for something to be considered a sport it has to aquire athleticism, and he says if you cant say i play______ then its not a sport such as i play baseball.

How many hunting or fishing license and tags do you buy every year? how much does it cost? what state?

it cost $130 for residents.
I still end up buying more salmon tags $11each (1 tag 10fish) my shell fish license $6.50 and my pursuit license to run hounds is $30
few years back Oregon started requiring boat license.
