Jerome-092 asked: I’ve been fishing at the pier for some time now. I used a sabiki rig and shrimp for bait. I’ve decided to use squid instead of shrimp, just to see if there is a difference. I usually catch mackerel, and rarely calico bass (I live in southern California). And will I catch any halibut with dead squid on a halibut rig? If not, what’s the best way?

I live in Southern part of San Diego near Imperial Beach, I’ve gone fishing to that pier and haven’t caught anything yet. I’ve tried muscles, squid and lures. I know it’s close to the winter season. So I don’t know what to do or what to use. I’m just a beginer.

An all purpose rod would be preferred; surf, pier and freshwater fishing are all possibilities. All input welcome.

jcabler24 asked: I’m fishing in Galveston off a pier in the morning should I use a pyramid sinker (I have a 2 and 3 oz.) or one with the round bottom.(1 or 2 oz.) I’m going to have two leaders coming off it with live or frozen shrimp if this matters any.
Or if neither any suggestions would be appreciated.
New to saltwater fishing here.
