Victorian Gentleman asked: I went fishing the other day. Sounds rather conventional I know, but this time I did it with a difference. I pretended to be a Baleen Whale, draped myself across the river and sieved a splendid catch through the gap in the front baleen plates and caught the food in my matted baleen fringes.
Youse all may want to keep quiet about this one, if this catches on there’d be no fishing trade left, and fishermen would be out of a job.

Marc asked:
Plain and simple: I love to fish (for anything), I love to be out on the ocean, and I want to make money doing it. I live in the San Francisco Bay Area and was curious as to how I could get a local fishing job out on the water. It seems today that you simply have to “know” someone (which I don’t). So any advice is greatly appreciated.

I live in Sydney, Australia. Where would I start to try and get a job on a commercial fishing boat. It doesn’t matter if it’s crab, tuna or prawns……just want a job as a deckhand. Also if anyone could give me an indication of how well a job like this could pay.

zackmann1965 asked:
I’m 24 years old and will be arriving in Anchorage on May 17th. I’d like to find work on a fishing boat. I’ve heard that Homer is a great place to work out of. What’s it like there as far as possibilities to find a job on a fishing boat? What is there to do when I’m in port? What are other options in other Alaskan towns? What are the conditions like working for the canneries?
