(they are under it) some of them get big (especially following the grunion runs) but they must be 22" to keep and you will need a drop net to get the big ones up. In Newport bay every dock with blue top railing is a community pier and fishing is allowed on them (they are public and not private) there are large bass in Puddingstone lake as well as all the park lakes in every city all over O C. I caught a nine pound large-mouth in mile square park and hundreds up to three pounds and many four to six pounders in H B, Costa Mesa, Downey, Long Beach and Whitter Narrows dam but pound for pound and ounce for ounce on four pound test the spotted bay bass in every back bay is the best fight for the money. I have caught juvenile Tuna, Bat Rays, Dogfish, Shovel nose shark, Leopard Shark,Bonita, and King Mackerel off this pier. If you are looking for smaller fish mackerel, smelt, croaker, queen fish, surf perches can be caught here. Use squid, shrimp and Mackerel meat as bait.
