If you go on a fishing excursion in Freeport Bahamas, how do you get your catch home?

Plain J asked:

I’ll be going bottom fishing in September. The tour guide said he would clean the fish for me. How do I get the fish meat home? Do they let you check it through customs? How do you keep it fresh? Will they ship from Freeport? Help!? So many questions!

We went deep sea fishing a few years ago. They offered us several options. They would clean, pack and ship the fish for us. If you caught something special they would arrange to get it to a taxidermist for mounting and shipping to you. They also offered to buy your catch outright from you.

Just check with the charter or the tour guide as to what your options are.

They should have shipping options. Keep in mind that most fishing excursions charge you for the initial trip plus you have to tip each deckhand, pay a certain amount for each pound of fish you catch, plus pay for each pound to be cleaned. Not all of them may be this way but I’ve gone on a few of them and they have all been this way.
