Fishing in a private lake without a permit is like parking in a private lot without paying -- it's not as serious as fishing without a license (which will cost a few hundred dollars), but it may be up to $100 (depending on things like the court costs which get added to all citations). But hopefully it'll be less.

You'll probably get a citation in the mail which you can pay off and never go to court. If you decide it's worth your time to fight it, have some believable argument (like the need for a permit wasn't posted) and hope the officer who cited you doesn't show up. And then you might lose it anyway. Peter_AZ

You are not being forced to show up to court, that is only if you plan on fighting the ticket which you shouldn't cause you will lose unless you actaully had a permit at the time.

You will get the ticket in the mail, if you plan on fighting it you will need to go to court on that date and talk to the clerks.

Just buy an effin fishing permit, it's only like $38 a year. cpr_hrrs
