Your chances of catching fish are higer.
It varies a lot if you are going to Fresh Water or Salt water.
Full Moon helps greatly when fishing in Salt Water as fish still very active even during the night because of the strong light the Moon reflects into the water (even not nocturnal fish) and nocturnal fish will bite more simply because they can see the bait much better and from a longer distance.
Salt Water fishing is helped more from full Moon than freshwater fishing because salt water fish feed several times during the day and fresh water fish feed mainly on the hottest hours of the day and most will already be full at the end of the day. Levi N

Full moon or no moon affects fishing only as it affects the tides; e.g., high tide or low tide.

It has been my experience that the most productive time for salmon fishing in Alaska, is early morning (after a full moon night), just before sunrise, with an upcoming high tide.

Torch-light fishing (not rod and reel, but spear and net) in Hawaii, however, is best at low tide when the fish are caught on the reef, and with no moon so the fish converge to the light from the torch. Hazel H

Unless you are fishing tidal areas the moon will not affect the fishing to any great extent. I know a guy that is the most fanatical bass fisherman in the world. He fishes almost daily year round. He swears the best time to bass fish is the week of the full moon. And he says the fishing is best when the moon is on the increase, and as it decreases the fishing gets slower and slower. Is he correct? I don't really know because I fish every chance I get when hunting season isn't open. But most fishing depends on local weather and water conditions on the day that you are going. Just go, have fun and enjoy yourself. Good luck! dumdum

Here's an illustration. Academic research shows Northern Pikeminnow (Squawfish) in the Columbia River feed most actively at night. Their feeding peaks after Midnight. They tag them then track their movements.

Other research has shown fishing is best first thing in the morning and just before night. They weren't looking at night fishing obviously but it's consistent.

The primary effect of a full moon is that it's easier to fish. That's the main idea of this answer.

If you've ever tried night fishing, you know what I mean. The lack of light has to be compensated by timing and feel. Timing, because knowing when your cast is about to hit the water can't be done as well, especially if you are long casting.

The other advantage of night fishing is that these are primarily visual fish. The low light conditions give the fishermen an advantage.

The touch part of night fishing is much fun. It's interesting how more acute your feel of the line becomes. You detect a lot more.

In any event, the light provided by the moon helps CONSIDERABLY. MyCowsCanFly©

it affects the tides, and the bass in my area will spawn on the first full moon, when water temps are over 60. the moon affects spawning for all fish Aaron

i think i am right in saying the does not affect the fishing but the tides for example i come from south wales and some places fish better on a high tide and some places fish better on low tide like cardiff foreshore fishes better on a low tide
i have heard stories of fish being able to see better with a full moon but fish in the night usually hunt by taste and smell PAUL C
