Ah fishing in Ireland, i have fished all over in the UK (fly fishing) but never in Ireland, however there are some very similar flies used. the problem is where are you fishing, rivers, loughs or a reservoir. A simple guide to flies i used when i was in the UK was in winter time , try lures fished on an intermediate line, try the orange cats whisker. Also try fishing the washing line setup with some heavy buzzers and as the point fly a booby(this is a fly used in fishing in the UK for those thinking I’m violating guidelines etc) but don’t neglect dry flies in the winter if its a calm day, try daddies i there is a little wind and its possible they could have been blown onto the surface of the water. As for the spring and summer i like to fish mainly dries and buzzers, i like the 3d superglue buzzer and for dry flies i advise you give hoppers a go, try the Bristol hopper with some gink on it. Also at this time of year red, green and glass beaded flexi floss bloodworm patterns work well on an intermediate line. AIRFLOW

i fish mostly on the river Bush in North Antrim my fav is a dry fly i make myself that never fails -
size 12 wet or dry hook Olive SLF for body and Genetic-Furnace hackle sometimes with 2 or 4 legs tied from pheasant tail strands but work just as well without legs. they also work better when the hackle is trimmed straight across on the underside about 2 mm from the shank. and remember to use gink often to float
fish it by giving short twitches and pauses (about 1″) making it look like a buzzing fly on the surface upstream or downstream watch not to overdo the twitching when trying downstream but sometimes i catch when the fly sinks and i wet-flyfish so it seems it does well for both wet and dry flyfishing M1GURK
