Does a person over 18 years old need a fishing license for catch and release in Wisconsin?
rob asked:
Going camping for 3 days, I want to go fishing, but I do not feel it is worth $24 for the 4 day non resident wisconsin license. Do you need a license if you are just doing catch and release?

Yes, you need a license. Unless you’re special. steven a

The catch and release method has no bearing on the fishin’ license, it’s the fishin’ itself. Whether your lettin’ em’ go or not, anytime one has their line in the waters, in the game wardens eyes that is considered fishin’ FishSteelhead

Yup. I talked with someone from the DNR and I have to have one even to take my kids fishing. They told me that I would be charged, along with having my poles taken, if the DNR pulled up and I was touching a fishing pole.
But, depending on where you are going, there are some hatcheries around that don’t require a license and guarantee that you won’t go home empty handed. Sarah

Yes, doesn’t matter if you keep them or not. All that matters is age. Unless it’s private property. Grinder
