Do you really need a gold fishing rod to catch a wood fish in Harvest Moon Tree of Tranquility?

You can catch a Wood Fish in the Goddess Spring and the Goddess Cave only at night which is any time between 6PM and 6AM.
The level and the upgrade of your fishing rod doesn’t matter in order to catch it, except it takes a lot of energy to catch which means you want to have it upgraded at least a little.
Good luck catching it. It’s tough.
