Do you have to have a fishing license to fish on a friend’s property?
♥ ✞✞✞ Becca ✞✞✞ ♥ asked:
My husband and son are planning on going fishing at a friend’s pond this weekend. I was wondering if you have to have a fishing license to fish on a friend’s property? I know you have to have one in order to fish on public property, and you don’t have to have one if you are fishing on your own property, but do you have to have one if you are fishing on a friend’s property? If it helps any, we live in Missouri. Thanks so much for your time and input.

That be a’ nada’ aka NO, they won’t need one. Link will give ya’ a confirmation ~ it be from the MDC (Missouri Department of Conservation < Note: There be one stipulation which is conveyed in the above link ie., Daily Fishing Tag and Trout Permit. Just ta' be on the safe side, think I'd give em' a call on that. Link has MDC's regional Office phone numbers (call the one in the particular area where your "troops" are headin';) )...
Added: The chance of them bein' confronted by a' Game Warden are purrrrtty slim ~ private properties are not one of their (Game Warden's) priorities... FishSteelhead

If it’s his pond and he stocked the fish, probably not. Anyway I wouldn’t worry about it since it’s not likely the DNR are going to walk into your friend’s property and start asking for licenses. brokenmachine

this varies from state to state.
without a license:
some states you may only fish on private property if it is owned by your family. as closely related as grandparents. l believe missouri is one of these.
other states allow fishing on any private property as long as you carry written permission.
most of these only allow fishing in ponds under a certain size, no lakes or rivers that are not entirely on your property. l can see how a river may be just a bit difficult to contain entirely on ones own property. so needing a license is reasonable. the river is owned by all the residents of the state.
if you obtain a copy of your state’s fishing regulations, those will explain in detail just what the case is in your state. regs are available at tackle dealers or on line.
but just to allow you to fish anytime with no cares, why not just buy a license. it’s not so expensive. The Wormist
