Permit is just for that day or for three days. I buy for the year salt and freshwater. It's cheaper and you won't have to worry about it if you want to get up and go any day. Permits add up once you go a few times so it's cheaper. But have fun and I'm pretty sure you will be going back especially if you get have a good catch.
