What is the japanese term for fishing line?

It sounds like “Suji” or “Sugi”. My family and I just got back from Hawaii, and came across some fishermen. They mentioned that word and I was just curious if anyone know or have any info about it. Here in the U.S., we just call it fishing line. Thanks in advance.
Than again, it just could’ve been a slang or a shortened version of a longer word. Any help is appreciated.
