Any information on a Montague 6208 fishing rod?
Ulric Von Bek asked:
I recently bought a new house, and left behind in the garage was a Montague 6208 fishing rod. I know absolutely nothing about fishing, but can anyone on here give me any useful information about this rod - what type of fishing is it used for, what is it made of, where would it have been bought, etc etc? I’d be grateful for any information.

without seeing the rod, it is hard to tell. l can’t find anything on a 6208 rod. l can’t find much about montague. my best guess would be a 62 inch long baitcasting model perhaps for an 8 thread linen line (24 lb test), built for bass fishing. if it looks like bamboo and has 6 sides, it probably IS bamboo. if it is fairly heavy and semi clear, it’s solid fiberglass.
l think they may have made some metal rods… check it with a magnet… but if it was made from copper as some rods were (beryllium copper), the magnet won’t tell. if it is round and relatively light, it would most likely be tubular glass. glass rods would be post WW II. on many metal rods the guides were wrapped with wire.
